There’s something about life in the insurance industry that just won’t let you go.

At least that’s what Christina Garcia discovered. After spending five years working for E.L. Sanders Insurance Agency in the early 2000s, she decided to try her hand at a position with a government contractor. She was gone for a while — 7 years! — but eventually she made her way back to us. And we’re so glad she did.

Now, Christina handles double duty as an account manager on our Commercial Lines and as our New Business Marketer. She is awesome at both, and as you’ll see, it’s a perfect fit for her.

Check out this Spotlight Q&A to get to know Christina better.

You’re originally from Vermont. What brought you to Southern Maryland?
My mother and step-father decided to move to Southern Maryland in 1997. I followed along for a change of scenery. We started in Waldorf and ended up in Mechanicsville, which is basically a warmer version of the town I grew up in!

You started your career in the insurance industry, left and then come back. What made you want to get back into insurance?
I think what I enjoy most about insurance in general is that I am always learning. I feel like complacency ruins so many careers, and here I have embraced the opportunity to adapt and grow.

What brought you back to E.L. Sanders?
I worked for Sanders from 2006 to 2011 and then decided to accept a position with a government contractor for seven years or so. I did enjoy working for the contractor, but I found myself missing both the insurance people and the profession. So after a year or so of being in limbo, I contacted the agency in the hopes that there still may be a spot for me, and here I am three years later!

How do you balance your duties between marketing and account management? And what is the most enjoyable part of your work?
My mind needs to be constantly in motion in order to focus, so being given the responsibilities of both marketing and account management is literally perfect for me. I don’t feel stagnant, and I always feel like I am learning something.

What makes E.L. Sanders a great place to work?
Sanders is an extended family, just a great group of people all working toward a common goal.

What do you enjoy most outside of work?
Getting worn out by our 4 grandkids and playing soccer with the family!
